Vector Approach to Lids and Brow

Long Beach

The eyes of the beautiful normal young person while varying in general shape, have one key feature in common. The vector or alignment of the eyes are slightly elevated from the horizontal or a positive vector. As we age, the corners of the eyes and brow sag to yield a line below the horizontal or a negative vector.

Modern surgery of the midface and brow involve alterations in posture of the lids and brow to reestablish the positive vectors of youth.  Over done cosmetic surgery to the eyelids and brow can cause rounding of the vectors and small eyes. It is the effort by the surgeon to create an elliptical shape that sweeps slightly upward. In the male the line is kept more horizontal to maintain gender indenity. For the female, a more curved upward design is designed for personal preference.
